आखिरी मैच में नेहरा का परिवार और उनके साथ खेलने वाले कई खिलाड़ी इस मौके पर मौजूद थे। मैच से पहले भारत के पूर्व कप्तान महेंद्र सिंह धौनी और मौजूदा कप्तान विराट कोहली की आगुआई में टीम ने मैच से पहले उन्हें ट्रॉफी देकर सम्मानित किया।38 साल के नेहरा इसके बाद किसी भी प्रारूप में भारतीय जर्सी में नजर नहीं आएंगे। आखिरी मैच में स्टेडियम के दिल्ली गेट गेंदबाजी छोर का नाम नेहरा के नाम पर रखा गया। नेहरा ने इसी छोर से अपना पहला ओवर डाला। नेहरा का करियर चोटों से काफी प्रभावित रहा है। उन्होंने अपने करियर में कुल 12 सर्जरी कराई हैं। नेहरा ने कई बार टीम से बाहर जाने के बाद वापसी की है। 2016 में उनके द्वारा की गई वापसी के बाद से उन्होंने खेल के छोटे प्रारुप में टीम को काफी कुछ दिया। चोटों से वापसी करते हुए ही उन्होंने 2011 विश्व कप टीम में जगह बनाई थी और टीम को विजेता बनाने में रोल निभाया था। वह पिछले साल टी-20 विश्व कप के सेमीफाइनल में पहुंचने वाली भारतीय टीम का भी हिस्सा थे। नेहरा ने 1999 में दिसंबर में श्रीलंका के खिलाफ कोलंबो में मोहम्मद अजहरुद्दीन की कप्तानी में टेस्ट क्रिकेट में पदार्पण किया था। हालांकि वह टेस्ट क्रिकेट ज्यादा नहीं खेल पाए। उनके खाते में सिर्फ 17 टेस्ट मैच हैं जिसमें उन्होंने 44 विकेट लिए हैं। उन्होंने अपना आखिरी टेस्ट मैच रावलपिंडी में पाकिस्तान के खिलाफ 2004 में खेला था।Congratulations on today's win to the Indian T20 team. ..And farewell Ashish Nehra, congratulations on your splendid career.
